The Whimsical Workshop continues to create new and exciting products that spark people’s imagination and make them smile.

Heidi was born and raised in Rochester, NY, where she received a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design from Rochester Institute of Technology. In 2000, Heidi began offering her services as a product designer to a number of fabric companies. She created her own line of quilt patterns beginning in 2002 and in 2004 Heidi started designing fabric in her own bright and whimsical style. By 2005 the work load warranted expanding to a partnership and The Whimsical Workshop, LLC was born with Heidi as the chief designer. Heidi is known for her fun and whimsical quilts which she often makes in dramatic, bright colors. She also has an excellent reputation for writing clear and easy to follow instructions. Heidi designs a large number of project sheets featuring fabric lines from national companies such as Andover Fabrics, Blank Quilting, Studio E, Timeless Treasures, Westminster Fabrics and Windham Fabrics. She also designs quilt patterns for a variety of popular quilting magazines such as Quiltmaker, McCall’s Quick Quilts, The Quilter and Quilts. In addition she has completed five books; Quilted Whimsy, Bold Batiks and Dazzling Designs for Leisure Arts; for C&T Publishing she has written Pop Up Paper Structures; for F&W Media, Fabric Jewelry-Wrapped, Braided and Sewn, published in 2009. Heidi spends most of her time designing and traveling to trade shows, giving lectures and running workshops. When not traveling she enjoys staying at home in Arizona with her husband Matthew.

Matthew was born in Syracuse, New York so he is also technically a native New Yorker, although he only lived there two weeks after being born. He went on to live in both Germany and Greece before the age of three before his family returned to the States. His earliest memories are climbing over the Acropolis in Athens and other ancient ruins. Matthew holds Master degrees in both anthropology from Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas (with a specialty in nautical archaeology) and architecture from Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona. He is a licensed Architect in Arizona. Matthew joined The Whimsical Workshop full-time in 2010. He enjoys the design process, whether it is a new building, art piece or quilt design. He is just at home designing art nouveau inspired pieces as he is a new whimsical character. Matthew’s quilt designs have been featured in popular quilting magazines such as Fabric Trends and Quiltmaker, and his first fabric line Mission: Space was with Quilting Treasures. His latest line Booooville is being released by Benartex. Matthew works in his Chandler, Arizona studio. A closet bibliophile, he enjoys custom book-binding when he gets a spare minute. When not helping run the studio, he also enjoys traveling with his wife Heidi.
